Hino’s N04C turbo-diesel engine offers a class-leading combination of power and torque. The 4.0-litre engine is equipped with a common-rail fuel injection system and variable geometry turbo technology to achieve lower emissions and uncompromised power and fuel efficiency.
Meeting both strict Euro 5 and Enhanced Environmentally-Friendly Vehicle (EEV) emissions standards (without needing Ad Blue), the new model’s gains in power, torque and fuel efficiency have been achieved through careful attention to engine design, turbocharger pressures and the high-pressure (common-rail) electronic fuel injection.
The engine features a cooled exhaust-gas recirculation system and closed crankcase ventilation, while the best Diesel Particulate Active Reduction System (DPR) system in its class has an 800,000km service interval and an automatic self-cleaning system which begins when the filter is only at 30 per cent of overall capacity.
Injection pressures have been increased and a new intercooler adopted, and the Hino engine has the added reliability of three fuel filters.
Wide cab manual models have 121kW of power at 2500rpm and 464Nm of torque at 1400rpm (N04C-UT), with a six-speed transmission.
Standard cab and wide cab automatic are rated at 110kW and 420Nm (N04C-US).
Standard cab has the choice of five-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission, while the wide cab auto also has a six-speed transmission.
The Hino Hybrid 300 Series features Hino's ProShift 5 Automated Manual Transmission (AMT).
The ProShift 5 AMT employs an electronic control unit to control the changing of gears and operation of the clutch. Unlike other AMT equipped light duty trucks the Hino has no clutch - the sophisticated electronics perform all clutching functions allowing easy, two-pedal only operation.
Cabin entry and exit on the new 300 Series has been improved with larger, class-leading door apertures, wider opening doors, larger steps, increased foot and leg space, and even a collapsible gearshift lever to allow the driver to slide more easily across to the passenger side if required.
Driver comfort has been maximised by adopting a tilt and telescopic-adjustable steering column, and providing a greater range of seat adjustment to allow drivers of all heights to better tailor the seat position to their needs.
Cabin entry and exit has been improved by increasing the duck-in height, moving the A-pillar forward to increase foot space, and enlarging the foot step. Foot and leg space has been further increased by raising the lower edge of the instrument panel, while in the wide cab, foot space is sufficient for a centre-seat passenger with size 14 boots to sit comfortably with toes pointing directly ahead.
Hino trucks are ergonomically designed to provide a functional cabin, with fingertip controls and column stalks positioned so that the driver has no need to take their hands off the wheel at any time.
New Hino 300 Series wide cab models are fitted with an ergonomically designed fully-adjustable driver's seat for maximum comfort.
